What is GIFT Nifty?
GIFT Nifty is the NIFTY 50 futures contract listed on NSE International Exchange (NSE IX) in GIFT City, Gujarat, and priced in US dollars. Until July 2023 the same contract traded on the Singapore Exchange as SGX Nifty; it then moved to GIFT City and took its new name.
How traders use it
GIFT Nifty trades while the Indian market is shut - early in the morning and through the night - so it absorbs news from the US and Asian markets first. Before 09:15, traders compare it with NIFTY futures’ last price on NSE: a GIFT Nifty well above NIFTY futures points to a gap-up open, well below to a gap-down. Read it with the NIFTY option chain and open interest to see where the day’s support and resistance sit.
