Brokerage & taxes
What a trade costs after the broker and the exchange
Broker fees, charged the way brokers bill: a flat amount per order, an amount per lot, or a percentage of the traded value - on every leg, at entry and at exit, so a four-legged position pays eight orders a round trip. Brokerage is reported on its own line, apart from slippage, so you can see which one ate the edge. Statutory charges - STT, exchange transaction charges, the SEBI fee, stamp duty and GST - are applied whenever you ask for them (say "with taxes") and on Strategy library results, each order at the rate in force on its own date - so a backtest across 1 April 2026, when STT went up, is charged the old rate before it and the new rate after. Taxes are off unless you ask, so a plain backtest shows P&L before them.
