Nifty, BankNifty and FinNifty are weighted indices, so a handful of heavyweight stocks often drive their moves. This lesson explains how constituents are weighted by market capitalisation or free-float market capitalisation, and which stocks matter most, such as Reliance, HDFC Bank and Infosys in Nifty or HDFC Bank, ICICI Bank, SBI and Kotak Mahindra Bank in BankNifty.
It shows how sentiment in particular stocks or sectors changes their contribution to the index, and how a trader can use index contribution data when planning option buying trades on the indices.
